TY Physics (for the last few weeks of the year...)
Reposting this link to our TY Resources page with a few updates.... TY Physics | PhysicsResourceBank One new addition relates to the AAC, with a list of project ideas from the old Coursework B. For those of you to whom that means nothing - it was required coursework for Junior Cycle students, with three titles published each year, from which students would select two. On those, they then had to design and complete an experiment and compile a report. I know it has been used b

Ireland's own little time zone!
I was fascinated to discover yesterday that, whereas the UK will be switching to Daylight Savings Time at 1.00 am tonight - going one hour ahead of GMT, Ireland won't be! Instead, we'll simply revert to Irish Standard time (which - perhaps not entirely coincidentally - is also designed to run one hour ahead of GMT). Kudos to the Grand Auld Stretch on Blue Sky for educating me on this: Post by @ theauldsthretch.bsky.social — Bluesky Apparently, it was the Germany who first i

The Ghost of Coursework B.....
For some of us getting used to the idea of coursework for Leaving Cert Physics students, its brought back memories of coursework for JC students. From (I think) 2004 to 2018, students got 35% for practical work, which was split up between Coursework A (10% on Mandatory experiments) and Coursework B. For Coursework B, the department would publish a list of three investigation titles each yea r (one from each of physics, biology and chemistry), and students had to complete

Draft Spec for Physical Science Published (replacing Phys-Chem)
A draft specification for Physical Science has been published by the NCCA and will now move through a consultation process. You can find the draft here: draft-leaving-certificate-physical-science-specification-formerly-phys-chem-en.pdf The Consultation process runs until April and allows for submissions by individuals and/or orga

Carbon Intensity, for where and how you live....
Good data presentation is always a joy to behold and - as some of you may know - I have been fascinated recently by this website, which graphs the carbon intensity of electricity generation around the world: that is, the quantity of carbon per kWh of electrical energy produced. Ireland | Electricity Maps It is an interactive graphic that allows you to click on (almost) any country in the world and see what mix of energy sources they used - and how carbon-efficient they have

Physics Collaboratives: Feb and March
The Oide Post Primary Science team are facilitating teacher-led collaborative for teachers of Leaving Certificate Physics for the new specification. This face to face collaborative will provide a platform for teachers to share ideas and thinking on specific areas, themes and approaches to teaching, learning and assessment in the Leaving Certificate Physics classroom. Teachers will also identify future areas of focus and work on these collaboratively during the event. Registr
