Changing Constants

It looks likely that the kilogram will be redefined in November. It is the last fundamental constant to be defined by a physical artefact - the kilogram prototype stored for many years in Paris. Its obviously about time, but its also a little sad to lose a link like this with the past.

the Ampere looks set to be redefined too. A prospect about which I feel no regret whatsoever.
